Compose a Card Challenge

Becky Oehlers has another great Compose a Card Challenge.  Here are the requirements:

And here is my card.  I did not have black wool felt, so I substituted black embossed paper.

CASEing

I "CASE" a lot.  A lot.  When I get a new stamp set, I usually go and find projects that have used the stamps, print them out and then copy them.  That way, I get to use my stamps; I get to make something; and usually it lets me come up with my own ideas...eventually. 

Depending on who you are, CASE could mean a variety of things:

I also learn a lot by CASEing - good color combos, fun techniques, stamps that go together or can be used in a different way.  That's what happened when I CASEd Diane's card.  She used the bunny from Tiny Treats: Valentine (from Papertrey Ink) for an Easter card.  I had already filed that set away in my mind as "Valentines" and hadn't thought to use the bunny for Easter.  Here's the link to her post and here's her card:

Isn't it cute? I love how she used the patterned paper on the bunny and the rick-rack, and the little buttons add just the perfect touch.  

I was in a hurry when I created my cards.  I needed two cards for my son's teachers.  So, I used the rick-rack die (the BEST $6.00 ever spent) and the same stamp set.  The inside of the card is stamped with the sentiment "Some bunny loves you!"

They have a few less details than Diane's, but the bunny tails are colored with red glitter pen.  Thanks to Diane, I was able to copy her project quickly and have something ready for 2 ladies that are near and dear to my family!

I usually don't post cards I CASE, but I wanted to let Diane know that she is an inspiration!

I used it as inspiration to create this birthday card.  I thought twice about including the polka-dotted background, but all the white space made me nervous.  :)

Ain't No Sunshine!

As I said earlier - I love this week's sketch from Card Patterns!  It is so versatile and FUN!! Here it is (again!):

A long time ago I stamped and paper-pieced this umbrella on the front of the blue cardstock, and then I got stuck.  I didn't know what to do after that, so it just sat and sat and sat.  Today, I decided I was going to use it...finally! So, I cut it and mounted it on the red cardstock and it became my focal point.  Love it when things work out the way I want them...so rare in card-making (and life for that matter!)

I certainly fall into that category!  I'm loving all the Easter stuff that I've been seeing, but don't have any Easter stamps. So, I "made it work" by creating an Easter basket out of adhesive-backed cork and filling it with buttons to resemble eggs. The patterned paper was a scrap sheet that I wish I had more of! I stamped the butterfly on a strip of it, ran it upside down through my Xyron, like Nichole showed us how to do one day, and glittered it up with Hero Arts Prisma Glitter! I inked the edges with Spring Rain ink.  A wonderful coincidence is that PTI's medium scallop die is an almost perfect fit for one of the scallops from the Hero Arts set!  Love it when things I have work together!

Again - Everyday Button Bits!  Love it!!  This card was a little different.  The white cardstock is mounted on the pure poppy bitty dot basics paper.  Then, I cut the base from pure poppy and left an inch hanging on the left side and mounted the image underneath and secured with some twine.  Thanks for coming by and looking!

First Bike Scrapbook Layout

This is a layout I completed last summer when I was still in awe over Everyday Button Bits!  I had never really used stamps for scrapbooking and this opened up a whole new world for me.  I need to get back to creating layouts since I'm many months behind on my self-imposed deadline.  That's my dad and son.  My dad is very ill now, so this page is priceless for me.

Terracotta Butterfly!

This is the first card I made when I got the scallop die and Background Basics: Tin Type delivered.  I had never really used Terracotta Tile, but I love it.  My stitching is a bit small, so I already adjusted that for next time.  I hardly ever sew on my cards, and I need to do that more often.  This card feels like it is missing something, but oh well, I already gave it away!

Have I ever told you how much I love Everyday Button Bits?  Probably.  This is a card I made when I first got the set.  I heat embossed the image that was supposed to be the grass on Aqua Mist and Ocean Tides. Then I alternated them to create the ocean.  Stickles on the sun and some yellow buttons for my duckies and I was done!  I gave this card to a fellow teacher in August who was in for a rough year.(Thank goodness we're in the home stretch!)

When I first discovered PTI, I asked people on the forum which green I should order, New Leaf or Ripe Avocado.  Most votes went to Ripe Avocado and I can understand why.  It's a beautiful green and combines nicely with so many other colors.  I loved the Turning a New Leaf stamp set when it was first introduced.  It's a keeper!

I love PTI's Everyday Button Bits!  It's a wonderful set that is so versatile, has great images, sentiments and fonts. Since PTI began this series in July 2009, they've released 3 other button bit stamps: Holiday Button Bits, Blooming Button Bits and Baby Button Bits.  I'm hoping for more, but I don't know what else they could do.

Butterfly Happy Birthday

I knew the moment I saw the sneak peek for Butterfly Dreams that I had to have it.  I love butterflies, and the designs that Niki Estes created are fabulous!

I tried the emboss resist technique with not much success, but I still like how the card turned out.  Is there a better color than Spring Moss?  Maybe Spring Rain, or Summer Sunrise, or Ripe Avocado, or OH - Enchanted Evening?  You get the picture!

I need a photography lesson too!

PTI February Blog Hop!

I have two cards for this challenge.  The first is from Lisa Johnson who used her scraps to make the card you see on the left.  You can see her post here.  I've made half a dozen of these cards.  For one, I used the exact colors that Lisa used and then I changed it up a bit.  You can see one of the color changes on the right.  I also combined Hibiscus Burst, Spring Moss and Spring Rain on a set of cards I made for a friend's birthday.  I love Lisa's Flower Garden set.  Love.  It's one of the first PTI sets I bought.

 

 My second card also uses Flower Garden.  I loved Nichole's use of Butterfly Dreams and how she overlapped the butterflies and colored them in with her markers.  Here's her post for it and knew I wanted to try something like it.  My result is on the right.  I used Aquacolor pencils and a blender pen.

Hero Arts Cards

This month's theme at the Hero Club Blog is "Flowers and St. Patricks Day."  It's been so long since I participated in a challenge, that I almost forgot how.  On a recent trip to Archivers, I killed my gift card from Christmas and bought 3 Hero Arts Stamps, among other things.  I got, "Stamp Garden", "Oceans of Joy", and "Monster Fun."  LOVE them all.

I submitted two cards this weekend.  The first is for a friend recovering from surgery.

I made this card for my pen pal, Lynda in New York. I cut out the heart and put little pearls all around it. Behind the heart, I placed a piece of white cardstock embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. I stamped the bottom with Text Style I (PTI) and added a ribbon. The inside sentiment, "Heartfelt Wishes", is stamped inside from a Hero Arts Set, "All Occasion Messages."
