Friends Are the Joy

I have another card for the PTI Anniversary Celebration.  This time Nichole challenged us to create a card using a color combination that a Fortune Teller gave us.

The colors chosen for me were Royal Velvet, Spring Rain, and Simply Chartreuse. Here's what I came up with using a set I had on my wish list for a long time and finally purchased.  (The base is Royal Velvet - hard to see in the lighting.)

Flutterby Friend

It's been fun helping PTI celebrate - can't wait to see the big reveal tomorrow!

PTI Thank You

I have another card for the PTI Anniversary Celebration.  This time Nichole challenged us to create a Thank You card for PTI's amazing warehouse team!  Here's mine!

Wonderful Words Thank You die, Cover Plate: Comic Strip, Beautiful Blooms patterned paper
I have had that paper for a long time and this is the first time I've used it.  Shame on me!  I cut several sentiments and adhered them together to make it pop.  Here's a close up:

PTI Alphabet

I was able to make another card this weekend for PTI's Anniversary Celebration! This one is for the Alphabet Challenge.  Using our first or last name, we are supposed to complete a project from this list:
I used letters from my last name, so my task was to Emboss resist, use Vellum, Twine, and Round the corners.

Here's what I came up with
Flower Garden, Keep It Simple

You can celebrate too by going to Nichole's blog!

Happy Anniversary PTI!

I've finally had a chance to absorb all the goodness of this year's anniversary celebration at PTI!  Of course it takes an event like this to bring my craftiness out of hibernation.  You can follow along at Nichole's Blog

The first card I've created is for the Color Challenge from Day 1.  I chose Ashley's palette here:

Flower Fusion #6, Beautiful Blessings, Everyday Button Bits

I have several more in mind to make, so I'm going to get busy!  Thanks for visiting My Happy Place!

MFT Sketch

I have two cards for today, both using the sketch from this week's challenge at MFT Challenge and Inspiration Blog.  You can see the takes on the sketch and get inspired if you click here.

MFT:  Blueprints #15, Words of Inspiration
I tried to stay true to the sketch on my first card, only leaving out the scalloped edge at the bottom.  I used the large rectangle die from Blueprints #15 as an embossing plate to give the edges a bit of detail.  I'm still working on using more patterned paper, so this was a great time to go through some scraps.

Here's my second card:

PTI:  Think Big Favorites, Wonderful Words Teacher die, Teacher's Apple die
I cut out the square mat from kraft and ran it through with a woodgrain impression plate.  After stamping and embossing the sentiment, I rubbed a little white ink all around it to resemble a chalkboard.  Adding the apple and "teacher" was easy after adhering everything to the notebook style paper.

I think I will make one more card using this sketch, but this time try a shaker card.  I've never made one before, and this sketch looks like it might be a good one on which to try that technique!

But first...a nap.

Just a couple

I was able to find some time tonight to finish up one card that I had started several nights ago, and messed up, then restarted, and messed up, and now I've finally finished the third attempt.  I don't know what was so difficult about this...
Hero Arts Cupcakes and  PTI Think Big Favorites #12
I'm still on a mission to use my printed paper, and I found that striped paper in my scraps.  I stamped the cupcakes in coordinating colors, overlapping as I stamped.  I put some glitter on each heart and topped it with Glossy Accents.

My second card tonight uses some new supplies I just received.

This is all PTI and all from the Comic Book theme just released this month.  I needed a quick card for tomorrow, so using all the new supplies made it easy.  I'm looking forward to working more with that cover plate; I know it's meant for more than just a comic book themed card.

PTI February Blog Hop and a Sketch Challenge

Today I have a layout that covers two challenges!  I always love it when I can multi-task, don't you?

It's the 25th of the month, which always means Blog Hop time at Papertrey Ink!

Nichole challenged us this month with this:
Pull out your letter stamps and alphabet dies and create something monogrammed!  It can be a gift for someone special or a treat to keep for yourself!  You could monogram a set of notecards, stationery, coasters, journals, home decor or anything else you can dream up!
You can see the details of the blog hop and participate over on Nichole's blog - here.

So, I dream of scrapbooking - during the day, during the night - most of the time, it's on my mind.  Even though I spend a lot of time making cards or doing 1,000,001 other things - scrapbooking was my first love, and the love to which I will always return.

As usual, I'm behind in my scrapbooking - this time, almost a year.  I created a title page layout for my son's 1st grade scrapbook.  Here it is:

PTI Supplies: New Leaf cardstock, Block Alphabet, Seeing Stars, Simple Circles border dies

This is his Spring picture from around this time last year.  It's one of my favorite he's ever taken, so I wanted it highlighted on the title page.  I kept with the monogram theme with which Nichole challenged us by adding his initials in the stars as part of the title.  I even researched monograms and found that the common format for monograms for males is to use their initials in order of their names.
(Does anyone else think of Major Monogram from Phineas and Ferb when they hear the word "monogram?"  Ahh, the life of a mother with a boy!)
To continue with this scrapbook means I have to reverse time and start scrapping the summer of 2011.  I'll get there.  I need to just focus on doing some clean and simple layouts and not get too bogged down in design and embellishments.  After all, they are for me to enjoy, right?

For the layout, I used this sketch from the Core'dinations blog, which is new to me.  I discovered it when I was perusing one of my crafty friend's Pinterest pages.  Thanks, Kristin!

Since it's a title page, I have no journaling, so I just left that area blank.

Here for You

I have one more card that I made today, and it will fit two of Nichole's challenges this week.  I was inspired by Heather's sympathy card using Through the Trees, but just hadn't had time to put something together.

Today's post by Nichole, gave me a chance to work on it and use watercoloring at the same time.

I stamped the tree leaves in Versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  After it cooled, I mixed up some Simply Chartreuse ink from a reinker with some water and used a large circular paint brush to add color to the leaves.  After stamping the text at the bottom, I did the same thing to add color.  I added the sentiment, some twine, buttons and inked around the edges, and I was done!

Thanks for visiting My Happy Place!  Now I have to go and wrap a shoebox and convince my son he needs to add something to it for it to be a Valentines Box!  Maybe he'd like to watercolor too!

Watercoloring

It's Day 8 of PTI's Anniversary Celebration.  I haven't participated in nearly as many challenges as I wanted to, but my heart has been there.  The clock is not my friend, however.  Today, I had to keep my son home from school.  He had a fever last night and early this morning.  I was happy that Nichole's challenge today involved creating something.  I needed a little something to do.  I'd hate to have to clean the house and do the laundry.

Her challenge was to use some type of watercoloring on a project, and here's what I came up with:

I used several of my reinkers and watered them down.  Then I took a brush and covered the front of a piece of Rustic Cream cardstock.  The sentiment from Up, Up and Away was perfect for this card.  I finished it off with some Rustic Twine and a button.

PTI Design Team Inspiration

Five cards.
Two hours.
That's a bit ridiculous for me, considering it takes me two hours to make one card sometimes.  But, it's easy to do when I have the PTI team to inspire me.

Today is the first day of the Anniversary Celebration at Papertrey Ink, and I'm so happy that all the members of the design team have signed on for another year.  They all bring so many different styles to the team!  Today's challenge was to peruse the DT's favorite projects from the past year and find inspiration for our own projects.  Some, I downright copied; others I used loosely.

First up, Christina:

Christina's card

My card!
I've had this cover plate for a couple of weeks and haven't used it yet.  Now, that I have, and thanks to Christina, I'm in love!

The inside!
I didn't want to completely copy Christina, so I used her card design as inspiration.  I don't use On the Couch nearly enough.

Onto Betsy.  Honestly, she gets me every time with her release projects and Make It Monday videos!

Mine!
You can't really see it in the picture, but I did use the canvas impression plate on the kraft panel.  I wanted it to look like sand.  I only have the flip flop dies - no stamp set.  I probably need to do something about that.

Here's Maile!

Mine!
I was losing daylight with this picture, but I think it turned out.  I used the woodgrain impression plate on the card base and added the ribbon to ground it.

And finally, Jess.  She's a fellow Texan, so she'll always hold a special place in my crafting heart.  I loved this card of Jessica's when she made it, and never have followed through in recreating it...until now!

Mine!
I used Aqua Mist as a background and a sentiment from Scattered Showers.

There are a few things I would change about some of the cards I created, but in two hours, I think I did pretty well.  I'm happy I was able to get so many completed from the great inspiration the DT brings!  You can see all the DT's favorites here

P.S.
I got one more made tonight, which was my goal!

Debbie Olson inspired me with this awesome project:
Debbie's

And here's my take on it:

Raspberry Fizz is not used nearly enough in this house!

OK, I'm done now...really.
