MIM #194 - Stamping Borders

This card is for this week's Make It Monday from Melissa.  She used regular stamps to create a border around the cardstock.  You can find more details if you click on Nichole's blog here.

Scattered Showers 2, Hello Sunshine, Phrase Play #1 die
Harvest Gold, Stampers Select, Summer Sunrise cardstocks

I created a border using the sun image from Scattered Showers 2, stamping in three different yellows - Harvest Gold and Summer Sunrise from PTI, and Lemon Drop from Jenni Bowlin.

MIM #168

This was fun!  This week's Make It Monday's technique is baby wipe stamping.  You can see Ashley's video and sample card if you click here.

I used Oopsie Daisy stamp set to create a background using plum pudding, Hawaiian shores, summer sunrise, and hibiscus burst refills. The leaves were stamped using ripe avocado and simply chartreuse ink.  The sentiment if from Think Big Favorites #12.

Make It Monday 145

This week's Make It Monday was a catch up of anything we missed throughout the last year.  After looking through all the fabulous choices, I realized that I missed a lot.  I had high hopes of getting seven cards made today, but other things happened!  I did get one made for the Glitter Borders challenge.  Here it is:

I glittered up the Heart Border with my Xyron and some prisma glitter.  After I adhered the borders to the white panel, I stamped the hearts and sentiment.  Tiny Treats: Valentine was a favorite of mine, and I use it for so much more than Valentine cards.  I love that PTI came out with Tremendous Treats and dies.  I die cut the puppy, stamped and colored him.  I coated him with some glossy accents to give the card a little more texture.

I still may go ahead and attempt the other six challenges I had in mind today, but it won't be in time for the challenge.  I haven't really crafted since August, and it feels great to be getting back into it!

Clear Cardstock

Using clear cardstock has been on my "To Try" list for quite some time now.  Nichole pushed me over the edge with her Make It Monday challenge this week.  She also used one of my favorite stamp sets - Springtime Doodles!

You can see her video and play along if you click here

Here's my card for her challenge today:

I used New Leaf polka dot paper and cardstock to create the grass.  I adhered it to the front, along with the sun, cut in Summer Sunrise and some A*Muse gingham paper.

I stamped the inside panel with images from Springtime Doodles, colored them and blended them with a pencil.  Love my colored pencils!!

Here's the inside:

I took inspiration from looking out my window -clear, blue skies, beautiful green trees and flowers blooming!  Spring has sprung in Texas!

Lots of Love

This is my second post today!

I had a lot of inspiration for this card.  First, the challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays is to create our own stamped background - the Wallpaper challenge. This week the sponsor is Ellen Hutson.

I also found the colors that Lizzie Jones posted in this month's PTI Newsletter just beautiful, and her sample card for the color-play makes me want to get Fancy Folk Art stamp set even more than I already did.

And finally, the challenge this week for Make It Monday is to glitter up some trim!
So, with all of that, I created this card:

Sending You stamp set, Angled Labels and Leafy Vine Border dies (PTI)

I wanted to create a different type of fold today.  I stamped the flowers and leaves in Terracotta Tile, Summer Sunrise and Ripe Avocado.  The centers were stamped with Harvest Gold ink.  For the Soft Stone color, I outlined all the stamping with a C1 Copic marker.  It doesn't show up very well in the photos.  I inked all the edges with some Tea Dye duo and then popped up the sentiment panel.  On the right side, I made a panel for the Leafy Vine diecut.  After cutting it out, I spread some Diamond Stickles on it and let it dry.  This was my second attempt at glittering that border.  The first time, I ran it through my Xyron and sprinkled Prisma Glitter on it.  It lost the Ripe Avocado color, even with heat setting it.  I think the stickles worked a lot better.  The inside of the card is decorated a bit as well.

You Make Life Brighter!

I have a card today that fits two challenges - this week's Make It Monday from PTI and Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge

Make It Monday is all about glitter borders, and you can see Dawn's video and play along at the link above.

Paper Smooches challenged us this week with this photo:

I used the inspiration and my favorite Paper Smooches set, Giddy Bugs, to create this:

I stamped the fireflies on Harvest Gold cardstock, gingham patterned paper, and vellum.  Then I paperpieced the two bugs on the Blueberry Sky mat, rolling up the vellum wings a little. After diecutting the grass, I ran it through my Xyron and then poured glitter on it.  The clouds from Up, Up and Away were stamped with Fresh Snow ink.  I popped up the heart and used my Sakura pen to add a little sparkle to the bugs' faces and tails.

Thanks for visiting My Happy Place!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Giddy Bugs (Paper Smooches), Up, Up and Away (PTI)
Cardstock: Blueberry Sky, Harvest Gold, New Leaf (PTI)
Patterned Paper:  Gingham (A*Muse)
Dies:  Grass (MFT), Tiny Tags (PTI)

Hello, Friend!

I was off today, so I was able to actually participate in another Make It Monday!  Very excited about that.  This week, Ashley coached us on how to make those trendy pinwheels.  In her first card, she used felt, which I had never thought of before, so I had to try it out.

Here's what I came up with:

I used a Terracotta Tile base, Kraft mat, Enchanted Evening tag, and the Terracotta Tile felt.  The sentiment is from one of the Flower Fusions.  I also used the pinked square in Limetless Layers Squares to create the pinwheel - which was a lot easier than I ever thought it would be.

hi, friend!

I promised myself I'd steer away from black and red for awhile, and I was successful with this card.  After watching Betsy in today's Make It Monday video, I knew what I wanted to do, but I wasn't sure which paper to use, until I was digging through my scraps and found the perfect piece.  This flowery piece is one of my favorites from October Afternoon, and I have cut it very carefully so as not to waste any!

Falling Leaves, Hanging Out, Little Bitty Bird, Take Three die (PTI)

First, I cut the yellow square and patterned square from the Take Three die. After cutting "friend" out, I adhered it to the cardstock using a piece of post-it note as a guide.  (Another trick from Betsy.)  I popped up the "hi" panel with some pop-dots.  Then I stamped the grass from Hanging Out, the tree from Falling Leaves, and the birds on cardstock, and popped them up too.  I added a little sparkle to their wings with a Sakura pen, and some gems to the tree.

It's been sunny and in the high 70s here in Texas; I think spring has sprung.  So, this card fits perfectly with my mood!  This year it was cold maybe one day.  Makes me wonder what our summer will be like.  {shudder}

I'm submitting this card to this week's Casual Friday challenge too!  Have you played along yet?

Interactive Birthday Card

I created this card for my brother-in-law's upcoming birthday. It's in a couple of weeks, so I'm happy to be ahead of the game.  The color scheme is an easy one to choose for him.  He's a Texas Tech Red Raider, so black and red are go-to colors for him.

This card fits the challenge this week at CAS-ual Fridays is to make a card that is anything but A2 size, and the Make It Monday Challenge at PTI to package cards with oversize embellishments. The card base is 4x5, and with the pull tab, it measures at 4x6.

I made this an interactive card by adhering the top and bottom with scor-tape so that the middle of the card could be pulled out.  Here is the inside:

The back can easily hold a gift card to a favorite restaurant.  I already know where I need to go to get that for my brother-in-law.  He has a favorite and hardly gets to go there.

Because this card will not fit in the standard A2 envelope, I dressed up a 4x8 envelope with a label, a birthday sentiment and a cluster of stars!  That should make him happy when he gets it in the mail.

Rainbows and Repeats - post 2

This is my second post and second card for this week's Make It Monday challenge.  This card uses this combination that Nichole gave us:

I have a dear friend who has recently made a huge, life-changing decision - she's retiring!  So, I wanted to give her a little encouragement as she steps out into uncharted waters.

Here's her card:
This card uses the Wonderful Words dies and Additions stamp set.  I placed Scor-tape on the back of my cardstock before running it through my Big Shot.  This gave enough adhesive on the back to secure the delicate die-cut down.

There are several other color combinations that Nichole came up with for this challenge.  Click on the link above to see them all!

Thanks for visiting!

Rainbows and Repeats

I have two cards today - both for this week's Make It Monday Challenge.  Nichole challenged us to use repeat stamping or repeat die-cuts in rainbow color combinations.

For my first card, I chose this combination:
Here's what I came up with:
This one is a birthday card for a dear friend.  I used PTI's zig zag die, Sunshine Impression Plate and a sentiment from Up, Up and Away to create this one.  The sun die is from My Favorite Things.  I ran the center portion through the Xyron before laying it down in glitter.

Make It Monday #98 - Again!

Big and Bold Wishes, Teacher's Apple, Winterberry (PTI)
I made this card for this week's Make It Monday.  The idea was rattling around in my head all day, and I was finally able to sit down this afternoon and see if I could make it work.  Betsy Veldman did a great job on the tutorial.  You can see her video and card if you click on Nichole's blog here

I followed Betsy's tutorial a little more this time than I did with my last card.  It was kind of intimidating, but I wanted to give it a shot.  I also added some sparkle on the apple with a Sakura pen, some pearls on the leaf clusters, and some texture on the card base with the Woodgrain Impression Plate.

Make It Monday #98

That Betsy Veldman gets me every time.  I loved her technique today in Make It Monday, and this is what I came up with:

Winterberry, Shape Up Snowman, Tremendous Treats: Christmas Stamps, Peace Be Still dies (PTI)
After I created the faux chalkboard panel, I had to figure out what card base to use.  White was the only color that made sense, but it seemed a bit boring.  So, I added some scor-tape to the edges, and poured glitter over it to give the base a shimmering effect!

You can see Betsy's video for this week's Make It Monday and other entries if you click here.

I have also used this technique before when I created some chalkboard cards for my colleagues.  You can see the post by clicking here

Make it Monday #97

I've been a bad blogger, and an even worse crafter, but this week, I turned that around.  I've made 26 cards in the last couple of days - mostly for thank you  notes for birthday and Christmas gifts.  My son even sat down and wrote his twelve notes with minimal attitude.  It's a wonder what the promise of candy will do for the attitude.

After seeing a box of cards in the clearance section yesterday using this same color combination and polka dots, I knew I could recreate a card that was similar. I'm lucky enough to be able to include this card in this week's Make It Monday challenge.  You can find details here:

I made these cards for my son to send to friends and relatives:
Polka Dot Basics, Tremendous Treats Christmas (PTI)
I wanted to keep it simple because I had so many to  make, so I began by stamping the cute reindeer in the corner.  After stamping the polka dot background, I added a strip of the glitter ribbon I found last year at Archivers.  I colored in the hooves, tail, star and nose and gave a little sparkle to the antlers and eyes with my Sakura pen.  Before I went to bed, I dotted each nose with some Glossy Accents to give a little dimension to Rudolph.

MIM #83

This post is for the current Make It Monday challenge that Melissa Phillips put together.  You can see all the details and submit your card if you click here. Melissa challenged us to find a card in the card aisle and use it as inspiration for our project for this week.

I didn't technically go to the card aisle to find a card. I received this one a while ago.

It's beautiful, I think.  I love the Ocean Tides color, the embossing look and the little bit of bling in the center of the flowers.  I would have never put this color combination together either.  It's so pretty.  I love this card.

Here's my take on it:

I heat embossed some leaves from Turning a New Leaf on the Ocean Tides cardstock, die-cut a couple of strips from the Eyelet Lace border die, and added some bling in the centers.  After stamping the sentiment on a Spellbinders die and adding some twine, I was finished.  Easy peasy.  It's not quite as fancy as the store bought card, but I love this one too.
